Information

Movable Cultural Property Grants provide funding to designated organizations, Indigenous governing bodies, and Indigenous-led heritage organizations to acquire cultural property or belongings of outstanding significance and national importance to Canada. Grants may be used to purchase cultural property for which an export permit has been denied or that are available for purchase outside Canada. Organizations not yet designated may apply for designation alongside a grant application. The program is administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a designated institution or public authority in Canada under the Cultural Property Export and Import Act, or an Indigenous governing body or Indigenous-led organization with a mandate to preserve First Nations, Inuit, and/or Métis heritage. Organizations not designated may apply for designation alongside a grant application.

Application

Review the Application Guidelines, contact the Movable Cultural Property Program to request a grant application form, and submit the completed grant application form. Non-designated organizations must also request and submit a designation application.
