Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program

The Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program supports outstanding early career tenured and tenure-track faculty researchers, including physician-scientists, who show exceptional promise as leaders in the basic biological and biomedical sciences. Scholars become HHMI employees while maintaining academic appointments and labs at their host institutions and receive up to ten years of support contingent on a successful midpoint evaluation. The program provides full salary and benefits, a generous research budget, professional development, and access to HHMI capital equipment and research resources.

Full salary and benefits, generous annual research budget, access to HHMI capital equipment program and Janelia Research Campus resources, tailored professional development including a required year-long leadership course, and participation in HHMI Science Meetings and retreats.

Applicants must hold a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent), conduct research in basic biological or biomedical sciences supported by HHMI, hold or be scheduled to start a tenured or tenure-track (or equivalent) faculty position at an HHMI-eligible institution by May 1, 2028, and have no more than 7 years of experience in any independent post-training position by the application deadline. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US or eligible to obtain work authorization for the duration of the appointment.
