DefendDefenders Safe Sisters Fellowship Programme 2025

Safe Sisters is a fellowship program run by DefendDefenders that builds the capacity of Women Human Rights Defenders, civil society workers, journalists and media workers to understand and respond to digital safety challenges. The program includes an intensive five-day workshop with mentorship, followed by ongoing alumni network access and potential grants to implement participants' own activities.

Open to Women Human Rights Defenders from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Somaliland.

Phase-based application: Phase 1 form by March 21, 2025; Phase 2 shortlist; Phase 3 self-study; Phase 4 online assignments; Phase 5 workshop (April 28–May 2, 2025); Phase 6 mentorship and follow-up support.
