The Detector Simulation Physicist is a funded early-career research position at CERN within the Geant4 team focusing on development and optimisation of GPU-accelerated Monte Carlo detector simulation, particularly optical-photon transport. The role involves software design and implementation, validation against CPU simulations, performance profiling and collaboration with LHC experiment software teams and the international Geant4 community. The contract can be extended up to 36 months and includes on-the-job and formal training opportunities.

Benefits

Monthly net stipend (6,372 or 7,004 CHF depending on qualification/experience), health insurance covering family, CERN Pension Fund membership, family/child allowances, relocation package, 30 days paid leave plus 2 weeks annual closure, training and language classes, possibility to extend contract up to 36 months.

Eligibility

Applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (with some nationalities currently excluded). By the application deadline, candidates must hold a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience; candidates with only a bachelor’s degree are not eligible. Applicants must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
