Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the Università della Svizzera italiana

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships support international researchers to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research at the Università della Svizzera italiana (University of Lugano). The programme funds research stays, whole doctoral degrees and postdoctoral projects and requires an official agreement from a supervising professor at the host university. Selected scholars receive a monthly allowance and additional support for insurance, installation and travel.

Monthly stipend (CHF 1,920 for PhD, CHF 3,500 for postdoc), mandatory health insurance coverage, a one-time installation and travel allowance, and institutional/academic support at USI.

Graduates holding a Master's degree or a Doctorate who wish to undertake doctoral or postdoctoral research; applicants must obtain prior official agreement from a supervising professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana and meet eligibility criteria set by the Swiss diplomatic representation in their country of origin.

Obtain prior agreement from a supervising professor at USI, prepare the official Federal Commission application form and supporting documents (CV, research proposal, recommendation letters, certified diplomas), and submit the complete dossier to the Swiss embassy or consulate in the applicant's country before the programme deadline.
