Information

The Investigation of Railway Studs and Squats Top-Up Scholarship is a postgraduate research (PhD) top-up scholarship hosted by The University of Queensland for research into the initiation and growth mechanisms of rail studs and squats. The research will develop an experimentally validated mathematical model to predict initiation and growth of these defects and investigate rolling contact mechanics, dynamic wheel–rail forces, material damage and vehicle–track vibration. The scholarship supports a candidate working under Professor Paul Meehan with an associate supervisor and is offered to students enrolled in the nonlinear and railway mechanics research environment at UQ.

Benefits

$10,000 per annum top-up scholarship for up to 3.5 years to augment an eligible living allowance scholarship.

Eligibility

Applicants must be in receipt of, or apply for and be awarded, a living allowance scholarship of at least the Research Training Program rate. Applicants apply for this Top-Up Scholarship when they submit an application for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD); no separate scholarship application is required.
