AHRC Catalyst Awards: applicant-led mode

Grant Partially funded
UK Research and Innovation (AHRC) United Kingdom 2026

Information

The AHRC Catalyst Awards (applicant-led mode) provide project funding to support researchers without prior experience of leading a significant research project, to accelerate their trajectory as independent researchers and build leadership and convenor experience. Projects may be single discipline, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary and the majority of the disciplinary focus must fall within the AHRC subject remit. The full economic cost (FEC) of a project can be up to £300,000 and AHRC will fund 80% of the FEC. Funding for projects can be up to five years in duration.

Benefits

Grant funding covering 80% of project FEC (up to a FEC of £300,000) and support for career development, leadership and convenor experience for project leads.

Eligibility

Applicants must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for AHRC funding and must meet the individual eligibility criteria; applicants should not have been a current or former project lead on AHRC or other UKRI research grants or fellowship grants (with specified exceptions). International researchers may apply as 'project co-lead (international)'.
