Experimental medicine to define mechanisms of gambling disorder

Grant
UK Research and Innovation (Medical Research Council) United Kingdom 2026

Information

A UKRI/MRC funding opportunity for academically led experimental medicine studies in humans to deepen mechanistic understanding of causal mechanisms underlying the effects of gambling activities, products and interventions in gambling disorder. Projects must focus on a mechanistic hypothesis, include an experimental intervention or challenge in humans, and be independent from gambling industry associations. Applications are led by investigators based at research organisations eligible for Medical Research Council funding. A new investigator route is available for researchers taking the next step towards becoming independent investigators.

Eligibility

To lead an application applicants must be based at a research organisation eligible for MRC funding. New investigator applicants are early career researchers capable of becoming independent researchers and must have research organisation support and meet the MRC 'transition to independence' criteria. International research organisations are generally not eligible to lead an application; eligible UK organisations and certain MRC units are specified.

Application

Apply through UKRI's apply-for-funding process and follow the UKRI application guidance.
