BBSRC Brazil pump-priming award (FAPPA)

Grant Fully funded
Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) in partnership with The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) Worldwide 2026

Information

The BBSRC Brazil pump-priming award (FAPPA) is a joint funding opportunity between the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) to support pump-priming interactions between UK BBSRC-funded research groups and São Paulo-based FAPESP researchers. Awards provide funding for collaborative activities such as travel, subsistence, workshops, exchanges and a modest level of direct research costs over a maximum of two years. Funding is intended to gather preliminary data and strengthen collaborations to support future applications under the FAPESP–UKRI agreement.

Benefits

Up to £35,000 funding for travel and subsistence, workshops, exchanges, and a modest level of direct research costs (direct research costs may not exceed 50% of the total requested).

Eligibility

Applications must be made by a project lead who is currently in receipt of a relevant BBSRC research grant or be a researcher in a BBSRC strategically supported institute; applicants must meet standard BBSRC eligibility rules. Students are not eligible. Brazilian counterparts must be currently in receipt of a FAPESP research grant as a project lead or co-lead.

Application

Submit a single joint application to BBSRC via the UKRI Funding Service including a UK budget request; São Paulo-based researchers must submit the same proposal to FAPESP via the SAGe system and request equivalent funding from FAPESP.
