Information

Experimental Medicine Stage One is a funding opportunity to support research investigating the causes, progression and treatment of human disease. Projects must focus on a mechanistic hypothesis and include an experimental intervention or challenge in humans. There is no limit to the amount or length of project funding requested; the Medical Research Council (MRC) will fund 80% of the project’s full economic cost. Applications are accepted in recurring rounds that close every April and October.

Benefits

Project funding covering 80% of full economic costs; support for career development and mentorship for early career researchers when needed.

Eligibility

Applicants must be researchers based at a research organisation eligible to apply for MRC funding. New investigator applicants (early career researchers taking the next step to independence) may apply if they meet the specified criteria and have research organisation support. International research organisations are not eligible to apply as project lead except for specified MRC units.
