Information

The Heinz Heinen Fellowships at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) invite researchers and other qualified knowledge producers to conduct research on slavery and strong asymmetrical dependency across historical periods and contexts. The program supports a dedicated stay at the BCDSS to develop projects and engage with an interdisciplinary international research community. For 2027/2028, proposals should advance historical research in Slavery and Dependency Studies with a focus on periods before 1900, using a micro-level and comparative perspective where possible.

Benefits

Fellowships may provide a period of residence at the BCDSS to conduct research and engage with the research community; exact benefits and duration depend on the category (Doctoral, Postdoctoral, Senior, or Alternative Knowledge Producer).

Eligibility

Researchers at different career stages, including doctoral, postdoctoral, senior scholars, and alternative knowledge producers, who work on topics relevant to Slavery and Dependency Studies.

Application

Applicants are invited to submit proposals for the 2027/2028 academic year; details and submission materials are provided in the official documentation.
