Hunt Fellowship in Public Writing 2027

The Hunt Fellowship in Public Writing is a funded fellowship by the Wenner-Gren Foundation that supports anthropologists in translating their research into book-length nonfiction for general audiences. It provides $80,000 in funding for nine months of focused writing to develop a public-facing project. The program aims to strengthen public engagement with anthropology by enabling scholars to produce accessible, rigorous nonfiction for nonacademic readers.

Nine months of dedicated writing time plus participation in a writing craft workshop during the preceding summer.

Eligible applicants are scholars with doctorates in anthropology and independent scholars in anthropology.

Two stages begin with a Letter of Interest, followed by a full proposal for invited applicants.
