Invite only: Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) medical countermeasures R&D

A UKRI funding opportunity for early-stage research to develop and test medical countermeasures (including vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and medical devices) for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Projects may cover any stage of the development pathway from prototype development and pre-clinical refinement to early-phase clinical studies (up to phase 2a). Awards have a funding limit and require milestones with defined success criteria to demonstrate progression and improve domestic preparedness for CBRN incidents. Applications are by invitation only following a mandatory expression of interest (EOI).

Grant funding up to £4 million (subject to 80% FEC funding rate); project duration support up to 30 months; mentorship and career development support for early career researchers as confirmed by host organisation.

Applications are open only to project leads employed by UK-based eligible research organisations; the lead must direct the project and be actively engaged in the work. International research or commercial organisations cannot be project leads or co-leads; UK businesses and most UK charities can participate as partners but not lead, except UKRI-approved independent research organisations.

Mandatory expression of interest (EOI) submission is required and only applicants invited following a successful EOI may submit a full application; applications are invite-only.
