European University Institute (EUI) doctoral programmes 2027

The European University Institute (EUI) doctoral programmes are four-year, cohort-based PhD programmes offered through four departments: History and Civilization, Economics, Law, and Political and Social Sciences. The EUI operates predominantly in English and supports international and comparative research in the social sciences and humanities. Approximately 130 doctoral candidates are admitted each year. The Research Council of Finland provides supplementary grants for Finnish doctoral candidates selected to study at the EUI.

Monthly maintenance grant (RCF), additional research-cost grant, statutory pension insurance covered by RCF

Successful applicants to the EUI doctoral programmes; Research Council of Finland grants are targeted to Finnish doctoral candidates (with an invitation-only RCF call opening in spring after the EUI selections).

Applicants apply to the EUI doctoral programmes; after EUI selections, the Research Council of Finland issues an invitation-only call in spring for Finnish candidates to apply for RCF grants.
