Challenge Programme 2027 – Heat and Hypertension: Understanding the Mechanisms of Interaction

The Challenge Programme 2027 – Heat and Hypertension is a multi-year research grant competition supporting interdisciplinary, human-centric mechanistic research on how heat exposure interacts with hypertension and cardiovascular disease. It funds consortia of 2–4 research groups led by an independent main applicant to develop translational solutions and improved clinical management. Grants are awarded for projects of up to six years with large-scale funding pools to support scientific depth and collaboration.

Project funding of DKK 30–75 million over up to 6 years (budget to cover research activities and consortium costs as specified in guidelines).

The main applicant must be an independent tenured/tenure-track researcher with their own research group employed at a European (EU, Schengen Area or United Kingdom) university, hospital or non-profit research organisation and employed at the host institution with at least a 75% commitment and guaranteed salary for the project. Consortia must comprise 2–4 research groups (main applicant plus 1–3 co-applicants); co-applicant institutions may be located anywhere globally. At least one applicant (main or co-applicant) must be at least 75% employed and have their research group at a Danish university, hospital or non-profit research organisation at time of submission.

Two-stage process: Stage 1 expression of interest, shortlisted applicants invited to Stage 2 full proposal with detailed budget; Stage 2 includes an online presentation and discussion with the review panel. Applicants must follow the Information and Guidelines for Applicants.
