Joachim Herz Stiftung Worldwide 2026

Information

GATE (German Apprenticeship Training Exchange) is a grant programme by the Joachim Herz Stiftung that supports partnerships between German vocational schools and US colleges. It provides preparatory and implementation funding to establish and sustain exchange programmes, plus networking and information events. Eligible applicants can receive staged financial support for partner visits, project preparation and partial funding of exchange programme costs.

Benefits

Financial grants for partnership preparation and implementation (amounts as above); matchmaking support with US colleges; annual info and transatlantic networking events.

Eligibility

Applications can be submitted by the school support association (Förderverein) or the school operator (Schulträger) of a German vocational school. A partner university or partner college in the USA must already have been identified and the intent to cooperate must be documented in writing; a preliminary project design coordinated with the partner college is required.

Application

Applicants request the online application form and documents by emailing gate@joachim-herz-stiftung.de. Preparatory-phase and existing-partnership applications are accepted year-round; implementation-phase applications are due on 30 April and 30 November each year.
