Innovations in Low-Cost and Simplified Pathogen Sequencing Workflows

Grant
Grand Challenges (managed by the United Nations Foundation; co-funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Temasek Foundation) Worldwide 2026

Information

This Grand Challenge RFP seeks proposals to accelerate development of low-cost, streamlined, and operationally simple targeted pathogen sequencing workflows designed for routine public-health use in low- and middle-income countries. The call prioritizes sequencing methodology and workflow improvements that lower total sample-to-sequence costs to approximately US$1–10 per sample and that can be adapted across pathogens and existing sequencing platforms. Proposals should demonstrate scalability, adaptability across pathogens and platforms, and a clear roadmap for deployment in public-health laboratories in LMICs.

Eligibility

Researchers and innovators are invited to propose solutions; proposals should be designed for routine deployment in public-health laboratories in low- and middle-income countries.

Application

Submit a proposal in response to the RFP following the provided application instructions and supporting documents; a dedicated webinar (2026-09-01) will be held with registration available and the session recorded on the challenge page.
