National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications

The National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications present monetary prizes to science communicators, science journalists, and research scientists for creative, original work that makes science, engineering, and medicine accessible to general audiences. Submissions are accepted across multiple categories including freelance journalists, early-career journalists, local/regional reporting, graduate student researchers, early- and later-career researchers, and independent or organizational science communicators. Multiple awards are offered each year with cash prizes.

$20,000 and $40,000 cash prizes (24 awards totaling $640,000)

Individuals working in science communication, science journalism, or researchers who can demonstrate creative, original work in science, engineering, or medicine for general audiences.
