Westpac Research Fellowship

The Westpac Research Fellowship is a funded fellowship for early career researchers to progress research projects in Australia. It provides multi-year flexible funding, leadership development, and industry networking to support research with national impact across the Trust's priority areas. Typically two fellowships are awarded annually to emerging research leaders affiliated with partner universities. Fellows are expected to include international opportunities in their research plan and participate in Westpac Scholars events.

Minimum $460,000 research funding over 3–5 years, leadership development program (including leadership 360 review and online training), access to Westpac senior leaders and industry experts, networking across Westpac scholarship streams, attendance at the Westpac Scholars Summit (travel/accommodation covered), and travel/accommodation covered for interview.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and have been awarded a PhD between 2020-01-01 and 2023-12-31, or have an Eligibility Exemption from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) or equivalent at their host university. Fellowship must commence by 2027-06-30 and applicants must be able to attend an interview in Sydney on 2026-11-23 and 2026-11-24 if shortlisted.

Applicants supply two letters of reference (one academic, one personal) and a letter of support from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) or equivalent; submit application/EOI via the scheme's application materials and attend interview in Sydney if shortlisted.
