Research Fellowships for PhD Students (One Semester)

The Research Fellowships for PhD Students (One Semester) provide grants for doctoral candidates to carry out one semester of research at an accredited Israeli institution of higher education. Grants support independent library, archival or field research and consultations with local professors, and are intended to advance scholarship and mutual understanding between the United States and Israel. Awards are for one academic semester and may begin any time during the period July 2027 to May 2028, as agreed with the host institution.

$11,800 living stipend; up to $1,200 airfare reimbursement; limited health insurance for the grantee.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application and must be PhD candidates (PhD in progress). Individuals already residing in Israel or candidates who will have completed all doctoral requirements by the application deadline are not eligible. Candidates who have resided abroad for five or more consecutive years in the six-year period preceding the date of application are ineligible.

Apply online via the Fulbright application portal. Candidates must arrange institutional affiliation and a hosting commitment from an eligible Israeli institution; a formal hosting commitment must be received by Fulbright Israel no later than 2026-02-28.
