AIRC Start-Up Grant

The AIRC Start-Up Grant is a five-year research grant to support researchers who return to Italy to establish their own laboratory focused on cancer research. Grants are awarded after a competitive international peer-review process and approved by AIRC's governing bodies. The funding covers research costs and personnel to enable the establishment and running of the research group. Projects are cohort-based and may be subject to duration adjustments or zero-cost extensions.

Grants are open to researchers of any nationality who wish to start a research laboratory in Italy after a significant period of research experience abroad. Applicants are evaluated for scientific relevance to cancer, innovativeness, feasibility and evidence of potential leadership for independent research.

Applications are evaluated through an international peer-review process and approved by AIRC's governing boards.
