Clinician Scientist Fellowship

Fellowship Fully funded
Cancer Research UK United Kingdom 2026

Information

The Clinician Scientist Fellowship is a competitive, multi-year fellowship that supports clinicians with higher research degrees to undertake postdoctoral training and transition to an independent clinical academic research career. Awards are hosted at UK universities, medical schools, hospitals or research institutes and typically fund a full-time position for the fellow. The funding period is five years and the fellowship commonly supports research time alongside protected clinical practice.

Benefits

Multi-year research fellowship funding (typically up to £1m over five years), a full-time host position at a UK institution, protected research time and research training/mentoring support.

Eligibility

Applicants must be clinicians who hold a higher research degree (MD/PhD), have some postdoctoral experience, be eligible to complete clinical training and practice medicine in the UK with GMC registration (or will hold it), and hold or plan to obtain a National Training Number (NTN) or CCT as specified. Applicants must have the support of an appropriate research group and supervisor at an eligible UK host institution and must not already hold a similar postdoctoral fellowship or a permanent academic position.

Application

Applicants should contact the funder for an eligibility discussion, submit a CV and an eligibility enquiry form, and identify a host organisation at the outline application stage. Applications are reviewed twice per year.
