Fritz Thyssen Stiftung Germany 2026

Information

ThyssenLesezeit is a six-month programme by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung that releases excellent researchers in the humanities and social sciences from their university administrative duties to allow focused reading and reorientation. Funding is granted in a tandem form: an administratively burdened senior academic is supported for six months while a promoted junior scholar temporarily represents the professorship. Awards are decided by a jury chaired by Christoph Markschies.

Benefits

Six months' release from university duties for the senior researcher and funding to cover personnel costs for a promoted junior researcher to represent the professorship.

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted only from German universities or non-profit research institutions; applications are accepted only in a tandem format (the supported senior researcher together with a named promoted junior replacement).

Application

Submit the foundation's application form with a description of the administrative activity, a two-page academic profile, a reading list, CV and five key publications, CV and publication list for the named promoted replacement, a cost plan for the replacement, and institutional confirmations; applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
