Core Group Programme 2027

The Core Group Programme is a medium-sized research grant supporting independent basic research in the humanities and closely related social sciences. It funds closely collaborating research teams (core groups) typically led by one or two tenured researchers and including senior researchers, postdocs and/or PhD students. The programme aims to strengthen emerging research groups and act as a stepping stone toward larger national or international grants and improved career opportunities. Projects must align with the hosting department's research plans and benefit education.

Medium-sized research grant intended to fund a core research group and potentially support postdoctoral and PhD positions; described as a stepping stone toward larger grants and career development.

Applications are by invitation only via the head of department; departments select which projects to submit. Core groups typically consist of one or two tenured project managers and may include senior researchers, 2-3 postdocs and/or PhD students; postdoctoral positions must be advertised and PhD positions are generally expected to be advertised where possible.

Invitations are sent to heads of department who select projects; selected applicants submit applications via the foundation's application portal. Unsolicited applications are not accepted.
