Information

The BSA New Scholars Program supports researchers who are new to bibliographical scholarship by providing awards, presentation opportunities, and mentorship toward publication. Each year three New Scholars receive a $1,000 cash award, a $500 travel stipend to attend the BSA Annual Meeting, and a complimentary one-year BSA membership. New Scholars present a fifteen-minute talk at the Annual Meeting and deliver preparatory virtual sessions, and they may submit expanded versions of their papers to the society's quarterly journal PBSA for peer-reviewed publication. Recipients may apply in one of the two subsequent years for an additional travel stipend to attend a second Annual Meeting.

Benefits

$1,000 cash award; $500 travel stipend to attend the BSA Annual Meeting; complimentary one-year BSA membership; opportunity to present at the Annual Meeting and receive editorial feedback toward publication in PBSA.

Eligibility

Booksellers, librarians, curators, collectors, junior (untenured) academics, graduate students at the dissertation level, and independent scholars may apply. Applicants must be new to bibliographical work (have not previously published, lectured, or taught on bibliographical subjects).

Application

Apply through the Kaleidoscope submission portal with a letter of application (including abstract and overview of the 15-minute talk), curriculum vitae, and one letter of recommendation.
