Global Initiatives Grant

Grant
Wenner-Gren Foundation Worldwide 2026

Information

The Global Initiatives Grant supports innovative, collaborative initiatives that build capacity in anthropology and advance public anthropology. The program awards a single competitive grant each year to fund projects designed to reach broad, general audiences or otherwise create lasting capacity for the discipline. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in anthropology (or equivalent) and be affiliated with a school or organization able to carry forward project outcomes. Grants are intended for projects that produce meaningful public engagement or develop models that can be replicated elsewhere.

Benefits

Monetary award of up to $80,000 to support the proposed initiative.

Eligibility

Applicants of any nationality or country of residence who hold a Ph.D. in anthropology (or equivalent) at the time of application and are affiliated with an institution or organization that can carry forward the project. Independent scholars may apply; graduate students may serve as co-applicants but must be listed as such. Applicants whose work focuses on primatology or primate conservation must demonstrate broader anthropological relevance.

Application

Submit an online application via the Wenner-Gren portal (portal opens two months before the May 15 deadline). Applications must be in English and include project abstract, answers to questions, budget, CVs, and other required materials. Contact via internationalprograms@wennergren.org for queries or alternative arrangements.
