CODESRIA/ZASB 7th Summer School in African Studies and Area Studies in Africa 2026

The 7th Summer School in African Studies and Area Studies in Africa is organized by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the Centre for African Studies in Basel (ZASB). It targets PhD students and early career scholars to engage with interdisciplinary approaches to African Studies within the broader Area Studies framework. The programme provides opportunities to interact with senior scholars and to develop theoretical, conceptual, and methodological skills relevant to African-focused research, with attention to social impact and policy contexts.

Travel, accommodation, and meals provided for eligible participants; engagement with senior scholars; networking and interdisciplinary experience; opportunity to develop research concepts and papers.

Open to Ph.D. students and early career scholars in the Social Sciences and Humanities disciplines; Ph.D. students from Swiss universities are encouraged.
