British School at Rome Rome, Italy 2026

Information

The British School at Rome offers a six-month, residency-based scholarship for exceptional early-career visual artists. The program provides a fully funded residency in Rome, with creative space and access to facilities, from 7 January to 30 June 2026. It is aimed at supporting Black artists from UK-based backgrounds who are underrepresented in the arts and at the BSR.

Benefits

Monthly grant of £1,500 for 6 months; £500 travel grant; £400 visa and artwork transport grant; full board and accommodation; access to facilities and networks; participation in Open Studios and public events in Rome

Eligibility

Applicants must be British nationals or have lived in the UK for at least 3 years, self-identify as Black (including Black African, Caribbean, or Black British), and have fewer than 10 years of professional experience as a practicing visual artist.
