Stellenbosch University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Residential PhD Scholarships 2026

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University, in partnership with the Gerda Henkel Foundation, offers full-time PhD scholarships. The programme is coordinated by the Graduate School and encourages interdisciplinary research with a focus on Africa’s development and democracy. Selected scholarships provide funding over three years for eligible PhD studies at Stellenbosch University.

PhD scholarship funding over three years; supervision and access to research networks and resources; potential collaboration opportunities within PANGeA.

Applicants must be from African countries, with priority for candidates from PANGeA partner institutions; applicants should have 70% in the final year of their previous degree, and must be able to commence studies in February 2026.

Prepare and submit the official application form, motivation letter, a research pre-proposal, transcripts, degree certificates, identity documents, and required supporting documents; submit through the university application process and obtain a supervisor letter of support.
