Royal Museums Greenwich Online 2026

Information

An annual international photography competition showcasing astrophotography across multiple categories for adults, young photographers and newcomers. Entrants may win cash prizes, publication/subscription prizes and have their work exhibited at the National Maritime Museum. The competition accepts up to 10 images per entrant and includes both adult and young (15 and under) sections as well as special prizes for newcomers and innovative work.

Benefits

Cash prizes (overall winner £10,000; category prizes for adults and young winners and runners-up; special prizes £750), one-year subscription to BBC Sky at Night Magazine for winners, shortlisted entrants receive a catalogue publication, and selected images are exhibited at the National Maritime Museum.

Eligibility

The Adult competition is open to anyone aged 16 and over; the Young competition is open to entrants aged 15 and under. The Sir Patrick Moore Prize is for newcomers who have been practising astronomy photography since January 2025, are aged 16 or over, and have not entered the competition before.

Application

Adult entries incur a £10 fee, young entries are free.
