Simons Fellows in Mathematics

🏛 Simons Foundation 📍 Worldwide 📅 2026

About this opportunity

The Simons Fellows in Mathematics program provides funding to extend a sabbatical research leave from a single term to a full academic year, enabling faculty to focus on theoretical research without teaching or administrative duties. Awards are based on recent scientific accomplishments and the potential impact of proposed work during the leave. The fellowship provides partial salary replacement and additional expenses to support the leave. Applicants must be sabbatical-eligible faculty at U.S. or Canadian mathematics departments with an active research program.

Benefits & funding

Salary replacement up to 50% (up to $125,000), up to $10,000 for expenses related to the leave, and 20% overhead to the Fellow’s home institution on allowable direct costs.

Eligibility

Eligibility is restricted to sabbatical or equivalent leave-eligible faculty who hold a teaching or administrative tenured position at the same U.S. or Canadian college or university within the mathematics department at the time of application, throughout the leave and in the term following the leave; applicants must have an active, current research program.

How to apply

Apply via the Simons Award Manager (SAM) application portal; application becomes available July 1, 2026 and requires institution approval of a full-year sabbatical prior to award start.
