Information

The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) Summer Intern Program is a 10-week Research Experience for Undergraduates where students undertake an astrophysics research project with an SAO or Harvard scientist. Interns are expected to work in person at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics for the full duration of the program and are housed in Harvard graduate student dormitory facilities. The 2026 session is scheduled to run from May 31 to August 9, 2026.

Benefits

$800 weekly stipend; free housing for the duration of the internship.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders) at the time of the internship; students interested in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or related physical sciences are encouraged to apply.
