AREF Research Development Fellowship Programme 2026/2027

The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) Research Development Fellowship provides a funded placement for African researchers at a leading research institution in the UK, Europe or Africa, with additional support at the home institution before and after the placement. The programme targets early‑career researchers aiming to develop their skills as researchers and work on important health challenges. Funding supports up to £47,000 for the period of the placement and related activities.

Placement at a leading research institution (UK, Europe or Africa) for three to nine months, with additional support at the home institution before and after the placement; up to £47,000 total funding.

Open to early-career researchers who are nationals of and employed in Africa.
