United Nations Youth Delegate Programme

The United Nations Youth Delegate Programme supports the inclusion of youth in Member States' official delegations to the UN General Assembly and various intergovernmental meetings. Youth delegates provide input to their national delegations on issues related to youth and participate in meetings, negotiations and other delegation work. The programme is coordinated at the global level by the Division for Inclusive Social Development, Programme on Youth Unit of UN DESA and serves as a resource for Member States to establish or strengthen national youth delegate programmes.

Youth delegates are young people selected by Member States to be included in their official delegation to the United Nations General Assembly and other intergovernmental meetings; national selection is managed by Member State bodies such as Ministries of Foreign Affairs, National Youth Councils or United Nations Associations.

Selection and application are handled at the national level by Member State bodies (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Youth Council, or UN Association); if no national programme exists, individuals are advised to lobby authorities and cooperate with youth organisations to establish a selection process.
