Student Essay Competition 2025/2026

An essay competition supporting new scholarship in environmental law and governance. It accepts submissions of student essays or papers (from assignments, dissertations or theses) revised for academic publication. The competition is open to students enrolled at South African higher education institutions and recent graduates who completed studies in 2025, and offers prizes including cash and other benefits.

Cash prize of R3000, evaluation by a panel of expert judges, and other benefits (terms and conditions apply).

Open to students of any discipline currently enrolled at a South African higher education institution (undergraduate and postgraduate) or former students who completed their studies in 2025; submissions must concern an environmental law or governance topic.

Submit an anonymised essay with cover page and proof of enrolment via the Google Form provided on the organiser's site.
