About this opportunity

An annual essay prize that highlights exceptional unpublished scholarship on the history, literature, and culture of Austria, Austro-Hungary, and the former Habsburg territories from any time period. Submissions should be 6000–8000 words and follow the Journal of Austrian Studies submission guidelines. The winning author will work with reviewers to prepare the manuscript for publication and will receive a 12-month membership to the Austrian Studies Association plus a cash award. Entries are judged by the ASA Prize Committee.

Eligibility

Graduate students and those who received their Ph.D. no earlier than 2024 who do not currently hold a tenure-track or permanent faculty position may submit.

Submit an unpublished essay (6000–8000 words) with an abstract, a brief author’s bio (150–200 words), and a CV to asa.essay.prize@gmail.com by the deadline; entries must follow the journal’s submission guidelines and not be under consideration elsewhere.
