North American Computational Linguistics Open Competition (NACLO) Worldwide 2026

Information

NACLO is an annual contest in which high-school students solve linguistic and computational-linguistics problems. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary. The competition includes an Open Round and an Invitational Round and is used to select teams for international competitions and to award medals and other recognitions. Problems are created by professionals in linguistics and computational linguistics and cover a variety of languages and phenomena.

Benefits

Participants receive scores, medals/awards, best-solution awards, and top students are assigned to national teams for the International Linguistics Olympiad.

Eligibility

High-school students may participate.

Application

Students register via the NACLO registration system and must be registered with a participating site; site hosts register separately. Walk-in registration is available at some sites on the day of the Open Round.
