GBIF Graduate Researchers Award

An annual award recognising innovative research in biodiversity informatics by graduate students whose master’s or doctoral studies rely on GBIF-mediated data. The 2026 edition will nominate two candidates from Portugal and will provide €5,000 prizes recognizing the work of two graduate students. National nominees are selected by the GBIF Portuguese Node and winners are chosen by the GBIF Science Committee, with winners announced in October 2026.

Candidates must be enrolled in a university graduate programme and be either Portuguese citizens or citizens of another country but students in a Portuguese institution; preferably one Master's and one PhD candidate.

Submit application by email to node@gbif.pt by 2026-05-15 including research summary (200 words), project description (max 5 pages), CV with contact details, and supporting documents (supervisor letter and 1–3 letters of support). Direct submissions to the GBIF International Secretariat are not accepted.
