About this opportunity
The Chinese Mathematical Olympiad is an annual invitational mathematical competition for high school students in China organised by the Chinese Mathematical Society since 1986. Participants are teams of high school students from provinces of mainland China, with invited teams from Hong Kong, Macau and some international guests. The competition consists of two examination papers, each with three problems held on consecutive mornings, and is part of the selection process for the Chinese IMO team. High scorers are invited to the national training squad that leads to selection for the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Benefits & funding
First, second and third class awards and a best team award named the Chern Shiing-Shen Cup; around 60 highest-scoring first-class winners are invited to the national training squad, whose members have guaranteed admission to Chinese universities without sitting the Gaokao.
Eligibility
High school students who attain top positions in their own provinces in the National High School Mathematics Interprovincial Competition; provinces are allocated quotas to enter the Chinese Mathematical Olympiad, and past national training squad members and top contestants from the China Girls Mathematical Olympiad are also invited.
How to apply
Entry is via provincial allocation based on results in the National High School Mathematics Interprovincial Competition and provincial preliminary selections; provinces submit teams according to their quota.
