Information

The ARISE Project invites applications for PhD scholarships in AI-related fields and six postdoctoral fellowships hosted in African institutions. The program aims to strengthen Africa’s AI research capacity and includes opportunities to attend international AI conferences and workshops. Ten PhD students will be supported, and six postdoctoral fellows will be hosted to advance responsible and gender-inclusive AI research aligned with Africa’s development priorities.

Eligibility

African nationals or permanent residents in Africa who are or will be enrolled in a PhD program at an African institution; research focused on responsible, gender-inclusive AI aligned with ATPS thematic priorities; strong academic record with relevant publications or patents. Postdoctoral fellows must hold a PhD in an AI-related field and be hosted by an African institution.

Application

Submit applications via the ATPS online portal; PhD applications by 15 March 2026 and postdoctoral applications by 31 March 2026.
