Information

The TWAS Research Grants Programme in Basic Sciences supports individual researchers in the basic sciences in S&T-lagging countries. Grants are awarded for research projects carried out by individual scientists, with amounts up to USD 15,000 and typically for a period of 24 months; funds may be used to purchase equipment, consumables and literature (excluding salaries, field expenses, travel, and certain items). The programme aims to reinforce scientific research capacity, reduce talent exodus, and build sustainable research units in developing countries.

Eligibility

Individual scientists must be nationals of developing countries, hold a PhD, be at the beginning of their careers with some research experience, and hold a position at a university or research institution in an S&T-lagging country; applicants should be under 45 years of age and must not currently hold another TWAS grant.
