AAUW American Dissertation Fellowship 2026

The AAUW American Dissertation Fellowship provides a stipend to women in their final year of dissertation writing to support their research and full-time work on their doctoral projects. It is open to women in all fields of study, with encouragement for those in science, technology, engineering, math, or gender-issues research. The fellowship helps offset expenses during the final year of dissertation writing and is the flagship AAUW program aimed at accelerating diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.

Stipend of $25,000; support to conduct dissertation research during the final year and advancement of academic goals.

Applicants must identify as a woman, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have completed all coursework and exams or have a prior-approved research proposal, be writing the final year of their dissertation full-time between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027, and be pursuing their first doctoral degree at an accredited U.S. institution or an eligible international institution.
