About this opportunity
The AWHF Moses Mapesa Education and Research Grant 2025 provides financial support for African doctoral and master’s students conducting research in natural or cultural heritage. Grants are awarded to support fieldwork-related activities at World Heritage Sites or sites on national tentative lists in Africa, with awards up to $5,000 and a fieldwork period not exceeding 9 months from contract signature. Eligible topics include heritage management, risk, conservation, development, and related digital technologies among others.

Eligibility
Open to students currently or who will be registered in 2026 in a Doctoral or Master’s programme at an African university, conducting dissertation research in natural or cultural heritage; must be an African Union Member State citizen party to the 1972 World Heritage Convention; fluent in English, French, or Portuguese.
