Information

Quantum Austria is a funding initiative to expand quantum research and technologies in Austria, supporting both fundamental research and the development of practical applications in quantum physics, quantum computing and complementary next‑generation high‑performance computing. The initiative makes funds available through existing FWF programmes (Einzelprojekte, Erwin Schrödinger) and in cooperation with FFG. Projects supported are time- and budget-limited and must be assignable to the field of quantum research and quantum technology. A total budget for FWF-funded basic research projects within the initiative is around 30 million euros.

Benefits

Project funding (up to 1,000,000 € maximum per project under the relevant FWF programmes); project duration variable but must end by 31 March 2026.

Eligibility

Researchers at universities, non-university research institutions and relevant industrial research departments active in the field of quantum research and quantum technology. The FWF places special emphasis on supporting women and early-career researchers and encourages them to submit.

Application

Submission via the FWF electronic application portal elane according to the application guidelines for the Einzelprojekte or Erwin Schrödinger programmes; relevance to the Quantum Austria theme must be explained in an additional elane form.
