SARAO Freestanding Honours Scholarships 2027

The SARAO Freestanding Honours Scholarships 2027 provide financial support for South African students pursuing postgraduate honours studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The scholarships aim to develop skills relevant to radio astronomy, engineering, data science and related scientific disciplines and to strengthen South Africa’s pipeline of researchers and professionals. Recipients are expected to undertake honours-level coursework and research under academic supervision and to participate in research environments connected to SARAO activities. The programme supports progression into further postgraduate research training.

Support towards academic study costs, research-related activities, participation in research environments connected to astronomy and engineering, and development of scientific and technical skills.

Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree and be eligible for admission to an honours programme at a recognised South African university; strong academic performance in relevant STEM subjects is required.
