Simons Foundation Pivot Fellowship Program 2025

The Pivot Fellowship provides one year of salary support for fellows to transition to a new discipline, embedded in a mentor’s lab for training in the new field. It includes a separate research, travel and professional development allowance for the fellow and a research fund for the mentor's lab. At the end of the year, fellows may be eligible to apply for a further research award in the new field.

Salary support for the fellow, plus a $10,000 allowance; mentor funding up to $50,000 for research-related expenses; potential eligibility for a future research award up to $1.5 million over five years.

Fellows must hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent in the natural sciences or related fields and be faculty at an academic institution or hold an equivalent position; they must undertake a fellowship in a new discipline and obtain a full year of leave approval from their institution.
