Metropolen in Mittel-, Südost- und Osteuropa

Metropolen in Mittel-, Südost- und Osteuropa is a scholarship programme of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes supporting study-related stays in Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe combined with intensive language learning. It typically funds an approximately one-year abroad stay (minimum 7 months, up to 4 semesters) including an intensive language course in the host country. The programme includes financial support, access to the Studienstiftung's academic programme and integration into a regional alumni network.

Annual stipend (detailed under funding_text), intensive language course financing, travel allowance, possible coverage of tuition fees, access to the Studienstiftung educational programme, alumni network and preparatory and networking seminars.

Aimed at German students who plan a study-related stay in the specified region and wish to learn the local language; open to students of all subjects from the end of the second semester. Applicants not currently funded by the Studienstiftung may apply, though applicants in arts and design are excluded if they have not previously been funded. Non-German applicants should check formal eligibility requirements.
