The Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference is a week-long residential program that provides training and community for beginning and experienced literary translators. It combines small, genre-based workshops with lectures, classes, readings, and meetings with agents and editors. Workshops are limited to ten participants and include individual meetings with workshop leaders. The conference aims to strengthen visibility and access to high-quality literary translation and to provide translators with training comparable to that of creative writers.

Eligibility

Translators at various levels, students mastering a foreign language who want translation skills, teachers interested in incorporating literary translation into their classrooms, and others wishing to engage with the literary translation community may apply.

Application

Applicants choose either the Introductory Workshop or the Translation Manuscript Workshop (or apply as auditors). Admissions are rolling from December 1 to March 15; applicants are notified approximately four to six weeks after applying.
