Breakthrough enabling technologies is a Research Council of Norway call to fund research projects on ground-breaking technologies with potential for disruptive change. Projects should target scientific or sectoral breakthroughs or novel solutions with positive societal impact, and must follow Responsible Research and Innovation guidelines. The call targets technologies such as synthetic biology, neurotechnology, quantum technology, Earth observation, materials, AI and autonomous systems and seeks to mobilise project teams to explore high-risk, high-impact directions.

Eligibility

The Project Owner must be an approved Norwegian research organisation that has approved the submission. Project managers have no formal qualification requirements. Collaborating partners may be approved Norwegian research organisations or equivalent research organisations in other countries; companies and other non-research organisations may not be collaborating partners but may be involved during the project period in advisory or user roles.

Application

The Project Owner submits the application via the Research Council of Norway's new application system; collaborating partners must be listed and a collaboration agreement entered if funded.
