Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program

The Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program assumes the financial risk for loss and damage to objects and appurtenances on loan for eligible travelling exhibitions hosted by Canadian museums, art galleries or other cultural institutions. The program provides indemnification as an alternative to commercial insurance and operates under the Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Act and Regulations. It sets maximum liability limits, including a program-wide contingent liability of $3 billion CAD and a maximum of $600 million CAD per travelling exhibition. The program supports both domestic exhibitions and international exhibitions that include at least one Canadian venue.

Indemnification for loss or damage to objects and appurtenances on loan, reduction in need to purchase commercial insurance, contingent liability up to $600 million CAD per exhibition and $3 billion CAD program-wide.

Institutions that plan to organize or host eligible domestic exhibitions (organized by a Canadian institution and shown in at least 2 provinces) or eligible international exhibitions (exhibitions with greater total fair market value of objects borrowed from outside Canada and at least one Canadian venue). The total fair market value of all objects and appurtenances in an exhibition must be at least $500,000 CAD. Facilities must have been approved by the Program within the last 5 years or a Facilities evaluation form must be submitted at least 9 months prior to the application deadline.

Ensure facilities are approved (or submit Facilities evaluation form 9 months prior if not); send a letter of intent 6–12 months prior to an application deadline with exhibition details and indemnity amount requested; download and submit the completed application form and required appendices electronically through a secure channel.
